Results of Sri Lankan Biology Olympiad 2010 Check your results.

Sri Lankan students can compete and win medals in Sri Lankan Biology Olympiad 2010.

Four students will be selected to participate at the International Biology Olympiad 2011, to be held in Chinese Thaipai, after the Second Round examination of the Sri Lanka Biology Olympiad 2010, which would be conducted for the eligible gold medalists.

Eligibility:

Students sitting for Local or London A/L exams in 2010 or 2011 are eligible to apply. There is no age barrier for the local competition, but to participate in the international competition, student should be below 20 years of age on 30 June 2011.

How to apply:

Application fee is Rs. 500.00. This should be paid to any People’s bank branch to “Institute of Biology account number 086-1-001-4-1191763 of Thimbiriyasaya Branch of People’s Bank”.

Applicant should complete the application form and post it with the Payment slip issued by People’s bank to the following address on or before 12 May 2010.

Sri Lankan Biology Olympiad Competition:

The examination to select the winners will be conducted from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon on Sunday 27 June 2010 at the following Centers:

  • University of Colombo, Colombo
  • Eastern University, Batticaloa
  • University of Jaffna, Jaffna
  • University of Kelaniya, Kelaniya
  • University of Peradeniya, Peradeniya
  • University of Ruhuna, Matara
  • University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Nugegoda

Candidates are required to sit for two hour paper with 40 MCQ questions and 20 short answer questions.

The examination is mainly based on G.C.E. Advanced Level Biology curriculum (excluding Applied Biology Unit) and may also include questions on the current developments and the applications of Biology.

Candidates can choose to sit for the examination in Sinhala, Tamil or English medium.

Admission cards will be sent to the selected candidates before 15 June 2010.

Selection of Winners:

Gold, Silver or Bronze medals will be awarded to selected candidates based on their performance. Decision of the council of the IOB shall be final in the selection of winners.

Those who score more than 50% of the marks will be awarded a merit certificate from IOB. All results will be published in IOB website (iobsl.org).

International Biology Olympiad 2010

Based on the results of SLBO 2009, following student will participate in 21st International Biology Olympiad in South Korea from 11 – 18 July 2010.

International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2009

Sri Lankan Olympiad team with Japanese examinersSameera Ariyarathna of Bandaranayake Vidyalaya, Gampaha and Udari Samarasiri of Vishaka Vidyalaya Colombo won Bronze medals at 20th International Biology Olympiad held in Tsukuba, Japan, which held from 12- 19 July 2009. This is the first time that Sri Lanka participated this prestigious competition. International Biology Olympiad is an internationally conducted competition, and in this year 221 bright students from 56 countries competed for medals.

Based on the results of SLBO 2008, following students participated in 20th International Biology Olympiad in Tsukuba, Japan from 12 – 19 July 2009.
