Sri Lankan Biology Olympiad 2024

දේශීය (ජාතික) සහ ජාත්‍යන්තර පදක්කම් දිනා ගැනීම සඳහා ශ්‍රී ලංකා ජීව විද්‍යා ඔලිම්පියාඩ් තරගාවලියට අයදුම් කරන්න

உள்ளூர் (தேசிய) மற்றும் சர்வதேச ரீதியிலான பதக்கங்களை வெல்ல இலங்கை உயிரியல் ஒலிம்பியாட் போட்டிக்கு விண்ணப்பிக்கவும்.

Sri Lankan students can compete and win medals in Sri Lankan Biology Olympiad 2024. Four students will also be selected to participate in the International Biology Olympiad to be held in 2025 in the Philippines.

Eligibility:

Students sitting for the Local or Foreign GCE A/L examination in 2024 or 2025 are eligible to apply. There is no age barrier for the local competition, but to participate in the international competition, the student should be below 20 years of age on 30th June 2025.

 

How to apply:

The application fee is Rs. 1800.00. This is a non-refundable fee

Please pay to “Institute of Biology account number 086-1-001-4-1191763 of Thimbirigasyaya Branch of Peoples Bank”.

Applicant should complete and submit an online application with the payment slip issued by People’s Bank on or before 25th September 2024 24th October 2024.

Examination:

The Sri Lankan Biology Olympiad 2024 examination is on Sunday 3rd November 2024 from 09.00 am to 01.00 pm as an online examination supervised by the following Universities.

(9:00am-10.00am: Student verification and admitting into relevant zoom meeting rooms,
10.00am-12.00 noon:
Examination,
12:00noon – 01:00pm:
Post verification of the students

  • Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, Mihintale
  • University of Jaffna, Jaffna
  • University of Peradeniya, Peradeniya
  • University of Ruhuna, Matara
  • University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Nugegoda

(Please DO NOT visit the above universities on the examination day as this exam is held online)

You must have a mobile device or a laptop to participate in the examination. If any unexpected disruption occurs, mitigatory measures will be taken to compensate for the loss.

The examination consists of a two-hour paper with 50 questions, consisting of MCQs and true/ false questions.

The examination is based on the GCE Advanced Level New syllabus curriculum excluding the Applied Biology Unit. However questions will be set to suit International Students also.

Candidates can choose to sit for the examination in Sinhala, Tamil, or English medium.

You will be able to print admission cards later.

Selection of Winners:

Gold, Silver or Bronze medals will be awarded to the selected candidates based on their performance. The decision of the Council of the IOB shall be final in the selection of winners.

A certificate will be awarded to those who score high marks, and this certificate can be printed online at www.iobsl.org/results website.  The number of certificates that will be issued will be decided by the Board of Examiners and ratified by the Council of the Institute of Biology.
