Young Scientist Award of the Institute of Biology Sri Lanka

This award aims to recognize young biologists who excel in research and have contributed to the development of the field of Biology in Sri Lanka. A Medal will be awarded to the winner at the Inauguration Ceremony of the 44th Annual Sessions of the Institute of Biology Sri Lanka.

 

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants must be below 40 years of age by the closing date of the applications.
  • The applicants will be evaluated on their contribution to 5 areas: research, innovation, grants,

    leadership and other contributions to the field of Biology.

  • Minimum marks should be obtained for the Sub-categories a and b of the Research and Publications

    section, and Contributions to the Development of Biology section.

  • This is a lifetime award and award winners are not eligible to reapply.
  • The applicant shall have the full membership of the IOBSL. [If not currently a full member, the

    applicant can pre-apply for full membership before submitting the award application].

  • The applicant shall be affiliated to a Sri Lankan organization/ higher education institute/ research

    institute etc.

 

Application process:

The applicant must submit the following in support of their application.

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • A statement explaining the contributions to and achievements in the field of Biology with respect to the

    research, innovation, grants, leadership and other contribution to Biology.

  • The applicant should indicate the marks claimed for each component of the marking scheme.
  • A self-evaluation indicating the marks claimed for each contribution and achievement.
  • A brief description (maximum 250 words) on the best five contributions/ and/or achievements

    indicating why those are considered as the best.

  • Higher education certificates (i.e.: undergraduate and postgraduate) and supporting documents for each

    claim.

  • A copy of the birth certificate.

Evaluation process:

  • Completed submissions will be evaluated by an independent panel of judges.
  • The Awards Committee should judge the eligibility of the applicant paying attention to the age and the

    field.

  • Marks shall not be given to the contributions/achievements submitted without supporting documents.
  • Members of the Council of the Institute of Biology or the Awards Committee shall not be the members

    of the judging panel.

  • The name of the recipient recommended by the judging panel should be approved by the Council of the

    Institute of Biology.

  • The decision of the Council of the Institute of Biology shall be the final.
  • The recipient of the Award will be recognized at the inauguration ceremony of the Institute of Biology

    Sri Lanka.
